This project was to create a set of multicolored clay objects. I didn't want to make something everyone would be making like a set of cups or bowls, so I decided I wanted to make a set if flowers using the two different colored clay. I started off by getting buff white regular clay and then using another clay called chocolate chip which when fires has little brown specks in it. The first flower I made was intended to look like a daisy but sometimes clay doesn't always work the way you want it too and ended up with a really pretty flower which resembles a dogwood flower. I made this on by rolling together the two clays in my hand to have a marbled effect and shaping the petals then score and slinging them together. My second flower was a rose. I made this by using the marbling effect again but starting out with a small spiral in the middle then I began to make thin petals and blending then layering on more petals. My final flower I wanted to look like a tulip and I tried my best. I made this one by having a cone shaped middle of the flower and then layering on petals until I felt i had enough then cut off the bottom portion of the flower so it could stand up. I also used the marbling in my hands to get the desired effects in the clay. The hardest part about making all of the flowers was the fact the clay was tough and dry and the pieces I was working with to make the petals were thin and fragile so a steady hand was great to have when making these. After the got fired I put a good coat of clear on them and hoped they turned out okay. These were really fun and surprisingly easy to make.
