I chose Andy Warhol as my artist to portray in this project. He was known for his works with pop art so i decided to do a slab tile of his famous painting he did of Marilyn Monroe. I started out by making stencils of the picture and simplifying it to make the picture easier to cut out using an exacto knife. After i had the stencils done I transferred them to my piece of clay and began to carve until i was satisfied with the way it looked. Honestly that's all the project needed with wet clay work, but I felt like the piece needed to be more unique so that's where the glazing comes in. I made the background color a shiny black and the first layer of carved clay I did with ultramarine blue and deep firebrick in the hopes it turns out purple. For the deeper carved portions i decided to do a bright yellow glaze and then I took crushed up glass and placed it in the slab. Hopefully it comes out looking like intended and I can't wait to see it.
